This Championship game started off slowly. The BC Lions led 9–3 at the half. In the third quarter, the Alouettes cut the score to 12–10 after slotback Jock Climie caught a one-yard pass from Anthony Calvillo. With 3:42 left in the game Alouettes running back Mike Pringle, (who ran for 115 yards on the day, scored to cut the Lions’ lead to 25–20. The Lions quickly answered with a Lui Passaglia field goal. There was just 1:25 left when Calvillo hit Ben Cahoon. Cahoon raced for a fifty-nine yards TD. The Alouettes missed a two-point convert to tie the game. Montreal’s onside kick failed , enabling the Lions to run out the clock.
